DAFFODILS
Written by William Wordsworth
Poem daffodils Written by William Wordsworth when he was on walk with his sister. His sister saw a beautiful view. There were number of daffodils under the tree. William was so impressed after watching large amount of flowers on one place. After that he wrote a romantic poem based on that scene. And it became one of the famous poems of 19th century.
1. I wandered lonely as a cloud
I was walking around feeling lonely, like a cloud floating in the sky.
2. That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
The cloud floats over valleys and hills.
3. When all at once I saw a crowd,
Suddenly, I saw a large group of something.
4. A host, of golden daffodils;
It was a large group of golden daffodils.
5. Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
They were growing next to a lake and under some trees.
6. Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
The daffodils were moving and swaying in the wind, almost like they were dancing.
7. Continuous as the stars that shine
The daffodils seemed to go on forever, like the stars in the sky.
8. And twinkle on the milky way,
They twinkled like stars in the Milky Way galaxy.
9. They stretched in never-ending line
The daffodils stretched in a line that seemed to never end.
10. Along the margin of a bay:
They lined the edge of a bay.
11. Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
I saw thousands of daffodils all at once.
12. Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
They moved cheerfully as if they were dancing.
13. The waves beside them danced; but they
The waves in the lake danced too, but the daffodils
14. Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
Were even more joyful and lively than the waves.
15. A poet could not but be gay,
A poet couldn’t help but feel happy
16. In such a jocund company:
In the cheerful company of the daffodils.
17. I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
I looked and looked at them without realizing
18. What wealth the show to me had brought:
How much happiness this sight would bring me later.
19. For oft, when on my couch I lie
Because often, when I am lying on my couch
20. In vacant or in pensive mood,
Feeling bored or thoughtful,
21. They flash upon that inward eye
The memory of the daffodils comes back to me
22. Which is the bliss of solitude;
And this memory is a great joy when I’m alone.
23. And then my heart with pleasure fills,
My heart fills with happiness,
24. And dances with the daffodils.
And I feel like I am dancing with the daffodils again.
